Thought Id share this in the hope that someone might google it one day and be able to save their own unit from being returned to the soil. ![]() It seemed to occur more frequently when the RTA was active, and when using the digital inputs (I guess the RTA and DAC are both fairly taxing on its processing power). The problem appears to be a combination of a hot internal power supply, some powerful ICs and a small case with no ventilation or passive cooling. I had read accounts of heatsinks doing the trick, so I added a few to the large SHARC chips and the error messages ceased, but instead I started getting really nasty pops (without error messages), presumably because with the hottest chips now running cooler, other chips became the weakest link. So I bought a pack of smaller heatsinks and some 3M thermal adhesive tape and stuck them on most of the ICs. I just wish manufacturers wouldnt cut corners like this - Behringer, if youre trying to reinvent yourselves as a more reputable brand, spending an extra few cents on proper cooling would be a good place to start. So if anyone wants to give it a go, Id say the the ICs with really small high density pins would be the main ones in need of cooling. My name is Bart Bolton, I am the Manager of the MUSIC Group Care Center in Nevada which is in charge of servicing and managing spare parts for the brands Midas, Klark Teknik, Turbosound, Behringer and Bugera. It operates as a line level device, and thus, doesnt generate much heat. For future reference, if theres an issue with any of our products, please contact our CARE facility for service. The addition of heatsinks may have masked the problem, but the root cause probably lies with an unrelated electrical failure (maybe a component thats causing the ICs to overheat). These Analog Device chips are not designed or intended for heatsinks and we do not recommend to use those. In fact we do not recommend to put any form of pressure on the semiconductors as this can lead to damage on the ball grid solder joints underneath. Is there a phone number I can reach you at Id like to see if we can get your unit here and determine what the root cause may be. Unfortunately as Im in Australia its probably not viable to send the unit over for inspection, and it would be well out of warranty at this point I imagine. Bart, I wrote you in email, my DEQ 2496 is giving me an error 11 after switching the RTA from input to output. I d like to repair this unit myself as I do electronic repairs for work. The schematics are not online so any tips would be appreciated. Update: took lids off and reseated all connectors and found that reseating the power supply connector cleared all error codes ie error code 1112 (meter: out) 9 (DYN).
